Australia is an independent Western democracy with a population of more than 21 million. It is one of the world's most urbanised countries, with about 70 per cent of the population living in the 10 largest cities. Most of the population is concentrated along the eastern seaboard and the south-eastern corner of the continent.

Australia being one of the largest countries in the world has the lowest population density. Australia is the only nation to occupy an entire continent. Its land mass of nearly 7.7 million km2 is the flattest (after Antarctica) of continents, yet it has extremes of climate and topography. There are rainforests and vast plains in the north, snowfields in the south east, desert in the centre and fertile croplands in the east, south and south west. About one third of the country lies in the tropics. Australia has a coastline of 36 735km.

Beauty
Australia is a natural wonderland of beautiful beaches, crystal blue waters, amazing ancient rock formations and pristine rainforests. Australia has 16 world heritage listed properties with its historic townships, bustling cities, vivid landscapes and exotic flora and fauna all adding to its unique appeal.

Much of Australia's exotic flora and fauna cannot be found anywhere else in the world and the lifestyle is one second to none.

Language
Australia's official language is English, by common usage rather than law. Australian English does not differ significantly from other forms of English, although some colloquial and slang expressions are unique.

Life and People
Australia has a stable, democratic society with a skilled workforce and a strong, competitive economy. Australia's multi cultural society includes its Indigenous peoples and migrants from more than 100 countries worldwide. Australia being a multi cultural country and Land of opportunities, large number of talented people prefer now to settle in Australia and New Zealand. Cultural diversity has become a touchstone of its national identity, and one of its most important strengths amid the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
